the founder and dreamer behind choosing JOY

the place to come if you need support with your online business

I had no idea I would end up here, but I'm sure glad I did...

I've always been fascinated by people's stories, how they ended up where they are now, what choices they made and what experiences they've had.
This is what makes my work with women entrepreneurs all over the world so interesting and exciting!
The world of online business and entrepreneurship is growing and anything is possible!!

I didn't think I would end up here but I did always dream of having a business that I could do from anywhere in the world.  With family in Canada, England, and New Zealand it was important to me that I could be flexible in my work.
Also living in Australia far from that family I wanted to be available for my young children as much as possible. I found something that I love doing and can do from any where.
I'm a Mum to two young girls - and we live on the Sunshine Coast of Australia.
But...
I'm Canadian - I grew up on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.  I have been living in Australia for the past 15 years.
I have a small piece of land in the Noosa hinterland where I grow veggies, raise my girls and care for our menagerie of animals, Sage, the crazy border collie, Halle, Chino and Luna our three cats, plus 6 chickens and 10 ducks (yes! they all have names but I won't subject you to that list!).
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Fine Arts and also a Bachelor of Education.
I was a Primary teacher in Canada and England and prior to that I worked for non-profit organisations in Canada, Mexico and Thailand.

My business story really began with a strong desire to create a life and business that was flexible so I could be available for my young daughters as much as possible.

This isn't the first business I've had.  When my children were very young I made organic cotton baby carriers - I sold them online and at markets.  Then I made polymer clay jewellery and sold in markets and in local shops. I started using essential oils and decided to create a business around educating and selling oils. It was around this time that I started helping a friend build her healing business and realised that I loved designing and building websites.

I wanted to spend my days being creative while also supporting and helping women do what brings them JOY!

So you can see that business isn't always straightforward. Sometimes you try a number of things before finding what really lights you up in all the ways!
This is what I find so interesting about entrepreneurship and business!
My passion is to support women in doing what they love to do! I work with artists, educators, healers, coaches, yoga teachers, nurses, writers, accountants,...it's so exciting and fascinating to learn what these women are doing and offering and what brings them JOY!

"If you follow your dreams and spend your life doing what brings you JOY, you are more likely to find success."

  • I rode horses competitively for over 10 years when I was young - mainly show jumping.
  • I've lived in Canada, Thailand, Mexico, New Zealand, England and now I live in Australia.
  • My name 'Darien' comes from a place in Panama. My Mum first heard it from a John Keats poem when she was a child.
The poem is  called 'On First Looking at Chapman's Homer' and he mentions a 'peak in Darien'.
I actually have the original book of poetry that she first heard it from.
